Warriors of Destiny
Prologue
This story begins like many - with an event, seemingly average in its
importance. In this case it was the discovery of an unassuming translucent
jewel commonly known as a diamond. In a cave deep below the surface of the Earth
it lay silently waiting. However this was no ordinary jewel; no mere trinket or
treasure. The individual who discovered it was changed forever; but this isn't
her story. This is merely the precursor to a set of events; events that help
form an organisation and ideals; ones that transcend time and eventually as
destined… traverse the cosmos.
Past Struggles
Throughout Earth’s history wars have raged over colour, creed and territory.
But unknown to the humans that destroyed themselves over petty differences, they
were being watched. Two very different groups observed in silence - each
ignorant of the other’s existence. The first was the Bane, a relentless force that
travelled the cosmos subjugating any species that may one day pose a threat to
their superiority. The other was a clan of brothers and sisters called the “Warriors
of Destiny” who worked to improve humanity and eventually deliver a message
left ages ago - passed down from generation to generation. The message of
Katrina and the Eloh:
With TRUTH we will Illuminate
the Darkness.
With LOVE we will Defend
the Weak.
With COURAGE we will Defeat the Scourge.
We are not alone
in this vast cosmos - we must fight together or we will surely die alone.
For hundreds of years the Warriors
of Destiny withheld this message for the good of mankind, waiting for a time
when the human race was evolved enough to accept the message with wonder and
excitement rather than fear and hostility. Humans weren’t ready to know about
other worlds and their peoples. As time passed the clan grew, more people who
could accept the message were brought into the fold; understanding that there
is nothing to fear from its implications. Then suddenly 50 years ago everything
changed… The Katrina jewel started to glow brightly and before their eyes a
holographic projection appeared. It was a warning from the Eloh:
“We apologise for our carelessness, long ago we made a grave mistake for
which you must now bare the burden. We are unable to aid you directly, but the
crystal you hold is a data shard which contains our knowledge; our technology -
use it wisely. If you are hearing this message the device has detected a force
known as the Bane. They will lay waste to your civilization unless you can stop
them. We believe humans can survive the Bane, we have seen your potential…”
Finally we knew what the ‘Scourge’ was; originally it was thought to be an
abstract meaning for evil, rather than a tangible enemy. When the message ended
further diagrams were shown, describing the Bane's probable attack patterns for
invasion along with plans for building a ‘Wormhole instigator’. This message
was quickly sent around the world to all clan members.
The next 50 years were used to their fullest, devising plans to stem the flow
of the Bane's invasion long enough to give humanity time to build the Wormhole Instigator.
Many the clan members joined the military forces in their respective countries,
working their way up the ranks; others used their merchant skills to play the
stock market and head multi-conglomerate businesses in a bid to siphon the
funds needed for the construction of the Wormhole Instigator on a remote
island. All the while the human race remained oblivious to the coming
onslaught. To have revealed the truth too soon would have at best ended in
ridicule and disbelief; at worst widespread panic and anarchy. Either scenario
would hinder the clan’s objectives and jeopardize their mission.
Judgment Day
Finally the day of reckoning arrived. The invasion came as predicted but was
far more brutal than anyone could have imagined. Most of the world was taken by
surprise; fortunately many clan members held the necessary positions of power to
station their forces in effective opposition. When the battle
began the clan numbered 10,000 strong worldwide.
It was at this time the Warriors of Destiny made themselves known to other
commanders around the world including the legendary General British. For the
first time in Earth’s history the entire human race joined forces to battle a
common foe. During the coming months the clan fought to hold back the invasion long
enough to complete the wormhole device. It alone remained the key to mankind’s
survival.
Earth’s forces were exhausted and
defeat seemed imminent, but finally the wormhole was activated. It was unstable
and couldn’t remain open long; constantly shaking the very foundations of the
Earth. Detecting the massive power surge the Bane forces converged on the
island. It was during these final hours that the clan shone the brightest,
fulfilling their destiny by evacuating as many people as they could through the
wormhole to the distant worlds beyond. Their fight was valiant and true; very
much in keeping with their ideals and the teachings of Katrina and the jewel;
the jewel that was instrumental in bringing them together so many centuries
ago.
Their own salvation was secondary.
Although most of their brothers and sisters had already fallen to the
overwhelming Bane onslaught they continued to fight. Every minute counted. In
the end the Bane didn’t need to reach the wormhole to destroy it… As
containment was lost the wormhole surged forth enveloping the clans’ last line
of defence before it collapsed under its own weight. As the device exploded it
tore the Earth asunder and wiped the island clean of any life. Many people were
saved that day; but only a handful of the 10,000 Warriors survived. The jewel
was lost during the battle, its fate unknown.
Epilogue
Now it's time to rebuild our forces, to continue our battle against the Bane. In
honour of our fallen comrades we will one day return to liberate our homeworld and destroy the Bane menace once and for all.
