In this week's Community Spotlight, we will be interviewing
Paradoxx, who is somewhat new to the Tabula Rasa community. New community
members are just as important as veterans, so they deserve the spotlight just as
much.
The following is the conversation that Paradoxx and I had:
Jaren: So, Paradoxx, how would you describe
your playstyle?
Paradoxx: I am a mid to hardcore player. I
like testing out how which specc'd class has which type of advantage and how
effective it is on the battlefield. On the other side I love exploring all
that there is to see in the game, and like to dive into some good Role Playing
every once in a while. And as for PVP, if I dont beat someone the first time,
I will better myself and beat them down to a pulp the second time!
Jaren: Revenge is a dish best served cold, as
they say. So, how long have you been exacting your revenge in MMOs?
Paradoxx: I have been playing MMO's for
aproximately 6-7 years. My First MMO was Star Wars Galaxies when it first
launched. I remember the first day it launched. NOBODY could login to the
servers because of such a high capacity of player attempts.
Jaren: So, what was your favorite memory from
SWG?
Paradoxx: That wasn't my favorite memory
obviously. My favorite memory from the game would be when my best friend and I
went on our first mission together (it was both our first MMO, and we could
kick butt side by side in an online world, which was awesome). We got
destroyed by a bunch of durni's, hahaha! Even though we got pummeled by a
bunch of rabbit look-alikes, it was still the most fun we had in a game since
we have been gamers.
Jaren: Pwnt by bunnies, huh? Talk about a
blow to the ego. What's been your preferred role in MMOs?
Paradoxx: I play an upclose and personal role
in MMOs (AKA Tank or upclose Damage-Doer). I just love the feeling of being
the first in battle and going nose to nose with the front line of the enemy.
Jaren: So what do you plan to play in Tabula
Rasa?
Paradoxx: In the case of Tabula Rasa, my main
character class will be a Guardian so I can smoke some bane with my combat
staff while protecting my other squadmates. I will not change my combat style
because I just enjoy it waaaaaaay too much!
Jaren: So you like to take a beating? Hmm ...
Well, your choice, I suppose. Do you find yourself playing to level, or
levelling while you play in MMOs?
Paradoxx: Actually, I do a bit of both. I do
not mind the grind in games to better my stats/skills and such, but when I
start getting tired of the grind, I play more of the story and RP stuff. I
will strive to make my character one of the best of its classes in the game.
This is how I play in all MMOs I play, and why I dont mind the grind.
Jaren: Garriott's new MMO has been in
development for years. When did you first start following the game?
Paradoxx: Since 2004, before they revamped
it. I love the idea of futuristic MMOs. It's why I started my MMO days in SWG.
Jaren: You were around when it was all Space
Unicorns and Chi, then? Did you like it more back then?
Paradoxx: I think if they wouldn't have
revamped the game, I would have liked it anyway. Mainly because it took a step
away from your casual Fantasy Mideavil MMO and went more for a sci-fi kind of
aproach. But I still like the newer version better, because I like the feel of
a "Shooter". It gives it a nice new taste to MMOs.
Jaren: The game also use to combine both
Eastern and Western styles. Which do you prefer in MMOs?
Paradoxx: I really dont mind either style.
But I lean more towards western style games. Reason is because western style
MMOs tend to hide the tedious grind a little better than most eastern style
games. An example would be Rising Force Online vs. World of Warcraft. RF
online you basically just chain kill mobs all day to lv up and get "Uber
Gear and XP". World of Warcraft you are doing quests/instances for the
majority of you XP which takes your mind off just chain killing mobs all day.
Jaren: That's a unique perspective on it.
Ninjas or Pirates?
Paradoxx: The question answers itself, as
soon as you see a Ninja standing next to a Pirate, the Ninja has already Pwned
him and is lying on the ground dead. Because, you dont see the Ninja until you
are already pwnd. Power of the stealth vs. drunken, peg-legged, wobbly-ness
which has no depth perception (the eye patch). It's common sense.
Jaren: Indeed, it is! Hear that, Pirates?
Ninjas are winning! Back to the topic at hand, however ... How do you prefer
to play MMOs?
Paradoxx: The way I see it: Why play solo in
an MMO when it completely defeats the sole purpose of the MMO genre. MMO is so
you can play with the population of the entire world. If you want to play
solo, buy a single player game which has no monthly fee. (BTW, if you cant
tell, I'm a group/raid kind of player.)
Jaren: Speaking of groups ... What color
would you dye your armor to stand out in a group?
Paradoxx: I would have to say dark blue-ish
purple. Mainly because it is a color that few use, and stands out from most
natural looking backgrounds, and I want the enemy to see exactly what/who is
killing them.
Jaren: Purple? Kind of girly. What do you
think of NAMBLA?
Paradoxx: NAMBLA means NAMBLA to me, sounds
like some random acronym.
Jaren: I'll give you some time to look it up
...
Two minutes later ...
Paradoxx: I just looked it up on google, and
wish I hadn't. /bangs head on desk.
Jaren: Yeah, anyways ... It's about time to
end this banter. Anything else you want to say?
Paradoxx: See you all on the battlefield.
Down with the AFS!! Err ... Um ... I mean ... BANE!!
Jaren: Riiiiight ...
And that concludes this week's interview. Hope you enjoyed it!
Check back next week for another telling chat! Until then, this is Jaren
Quintaine, off to cap some Bane!
